2020 has been nothing short of eventful. The ball dropped on midnight on December 31st and brought in what may be arguably the most chaotic year in history. Each month has brought us more and more to add to the list of unexpected twists and turns we've been thrown into. I intended to make this blogpost to apologize for my break in consistency of my blog... and then I had another thought. How many of us are taking the time needed for your mental and/or physical health? I certainly haven't, which is why 2020 brought with it for me a lot of health complications. I think that we should utilize the chaotic environment to try and do what is best for our health, whatever that may mean for you.
For me my year has consisted of nothing but stress and health concerns. I don't want to make excuses, but after spending 10 months struggling, I finally made my way to a doctor (this may not have been my decision, but ended up being a good thing) and decided I needed to put my life and my health first. After almost 6 years, I left my job in customer service. Still, I think about this and I feel guilt about leaving. About leaving my coworkers, my customers and my sales team. It's been a horrible year for everyone, and a part of me says I jumped ship. But the truest part of me knows I did what I needed to do. I was going down a bad path with my health, and my work was only adding to that. If you know me, you know I have anxiety around change. However, I have been working on trying to embrace the change in my life. I am working to make myself happier, more stress free and overall better this year. I advise you to look at your life. Look at the areas of unrest and discord, and see what changes you can make to help make yourself feel and be a better you.
My passport book came to me the day we were told to quarantine and self isolate here in Ohio, and the irony was not lost on me. Many of the travel lovers around the world have been facing withdraws this year, however, the pandemic can't hold you back from exploring around you. Take a little bit of time each day to spend outdoors, in the fresh air. Maybe walk in a park, roll the windows down, bathe in the sun. Anything to get yourself some vitamin D and allow yourself to connect with nature for a little bit. I was fortunate enough this month to take two trips out of state, but did so as safe as possible. Wash your hands often, take hand sanitizer and wear a mask when out in public. Take some time this week to tend to your mental health. Do some yoga, write in a journal, run a mile. Whatever your "you" time is make sure you put in some time for it. Think of what has made you anxious lately or what has held you back from flourishing this year, and what you can do to alleviate it. This week I plan on voting, doing a few interviews and spending some time for myself. I hope to bring you all some more travel blogs shortly, my Toronto Tales are coming soon.
Thank you for sticking by me during this tough time, and for those of you new to my blog as subscribers, thank you for believing in me. I hope you enjoy my stories and experiences, I look forward to bringing you more soon.
All my love,
Jordyn
