Alarm blaring, we awoke bleary eyed from our sleep to watch the sunrise aboard the Liberty. We were docked back at Florida's Port Canaveral, but it was hours before we would depart towards Savannah. We grabbed some quick breakfast items on lido deck and peered into the calm, dark, quiet that was the early morning port. After some out of the box cereal, we headed up to the top of the ship to watch the sunrise. Let me tell you, 5 am was so worth it. Photos don't do it justice. After watching the sun's awakening, we headed back to our staterooms to listen for our departure instructions. After what felt like hours, it was our turn to say goodbye to our stateroom and head back onto land. After packing our luggage back into the car at the parking garage located at port, I took the drivers seat and directed us to our next destination: Savannah, Georgia!
Savannah, a 4 hour jaunt from Port Canaveral, was a great stopping point for our drive towards home. Savannah is known for its historic ambiance and we decided to stop here to stretch our legs down by the river and do some shopping and snacking. When researching our stopping points, Allison and I were instantly taken by the photos of the cobblestone streets and waterfront shops. After parallel parking on one of the side streets (thanks dad!), we proceeded to cross over a rustic looking bridge before walking along the street fronts and observing the hustle and bustle of coastal Savannah on a beautiful May afternoon. We walked around and looked at many of the shop stalls and I even picked up a few Christmas gifts from a vendor selling NFL decorations and ornaments. After relaxing and watching the water roll, we grabbed some ice cream from a local vendor and headed back to our vehicle. We had another 4 hours of driving to do before arriving in Charlotte, NC- our stop for the evening.
We booked our hotel in Charlotte as the city is roughly 9 hours from our end point - Home!
We arrived late in the evening, so we grabbed some pizza for dinner before calling our families to let them know we had arrived and were en route home. After relaxing and talking for a bit, we headed to bed, eager to get home! So eager in fact, we decided against exploring Charlotte. As it is a busy city, we weighed the risks of getting caught in traffic, and having no resolute plans, decided to head towards home. With a stop for lunch in Wythville, VA we rolled over the mountainous roads of Virginia and onto southern Ohio. We stopped for some Duck Donuts and rolled home around 7:30 that evening. After a wonderful trip, we were thrilled to be home.
